Hytte - DK Merino
Hytte is a bold, tonal true red, unapologetic and deeply human colorway. Named for the hytter of Norway, the humble cabins tucked into mountainsides and along rugged coastlines, this colorway carries the quiet strength of shelter; a place of warmth, resilience, and self-preservation against an unforgiving world.
In the 1940s, Norwegians wore red pointed hats with tassels as a simple but defiant act of resistance during Nazi occupation. The hats became so powerful as a visual protest that they were eventually outlawed, becoming Illegal to wear, make, or distribute. Hytte draws from that history, honoring the tension between safety and expression, between staying alive and being seen.
Today, red once again speaks without words. As crafters are called to make red hats in solidarity with communities resisting ICE. Hytte stands for collective anger, care, and visibility. It is the color of protest made by hand—soft enough to wear, strong enough to mean something. A reminder that craft has always been a language of resistance, and that even in times of fear, we choose to show up.
100% of the sales of Hytte will be donated to the Legal Aid Society of Rochester, New York. https://www.lasroc.org
